Onl July 20, Dongjak-gu announced that it has established a“compreensive plan to creat an operational smart city” for a safer and more convenient for the residents.
On July 14, Dongjak-gu held a final conference on developing smart city plan and declared the four most important aspects of the project. Under the vision of ‘an innovative future city for smart life, Dongjak-gu will develop ▲ a fully demonstrated city ▲ an innovation-based creative city ▲ a life-centered inclusive city ▲ a sustainable future city. There will be total of 32 selected regions that will become smart cities.
First, through the establishment of a public-private cooperation platform based on blockchain and information and communication technology (ICT), public governance will be established including residents, businesses, and experts. With the operation of the Smart City Living Lab, residents and businesses will play a leading role, from raising issues to technology experiments and spreading and applying them, seeking a virtuous cycle of profit generation. By October 2020, the Dongjak-gu will organize a smart city planning working group and establish an ordinance on the creation of a smart city. In addition, it plans to foster innovative growth for local industries by establishing a cooperative system with neighboring local governments.
Dongjak-gu will present talent development and new economic activity models suitable for the smart city era. It will create an innovative work environment, such as a smart work center that fuses information technology (IT) infrastructure and a maker space that supports active entrepreneurship. It will prepare an education platform that fits the characteristics of all learners by generation through developing an IT experience zone based on virtual reality and augmented reality (VR·AR). It will promote the regional economy by building a smart tourism infrastructure. It will also manage the tourism contents possessed by the public and private sectors, and provide resident information and tourist information to residents through big data-based tourism pattern analysis and digital signage installed in the local area.
Dongjak Smart City aims to strengthen on safe living environment and care services. Using collected data and real-time monitoring through intelligent closed circuit (CC) TV, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, city will make rational decisions in case of accidents such as flooding, fire and crime and spread real-time situations to the residents. Also, by integrating 5G and digital twin technology into the old smart safety management system, the city will secure a real-time safety management system for public facilities and construction sites.
Dongjak-gu will also apply smart technologies in urban and administrative fields. The city provides a “smart public facility use service” so that all residents can easily use libraries, public sports facilities, and youth child welfare facilities. It will strive for universal welfare that residents can use Wi-Fi free of charge in parks, traditional markets, and village buses in connection with the Seoul’s public Wi-Fi integrated management system.
Lee Chang Woo, Director of Dongjak-gu, said, “We have taken a big step toward creating a smart city with a life style that fits the old characteristics and allows residents to experience it. In the future, we will do our best to realize a good city to live in, a city that everyone wants to live in.
