Bithumb Vice President Lee Jung-a has become an adviser in July to take responsibility for incidents of massive hacking and embezzlement.
Her resignation from the vice president post is noteworthy because she has been spearheading the company from its launch. A Bithumb official confirmed Lee’s departure from the vice president post, but he said she would initiate new projects involving virtual currencies. He categorically said she was not linked to corporate embezzlement.
An investigation has been underway on the embezzlement incident.
The company sustained a loss of 18.9 billion won last month due to the hacking of 11 cryptocurrencies it has traded, down from the initial estimate of 35 billion won. A Bithumb employee’s home computer was reportedly hacked, and information on 30,000 customers was stolen.
Bithumb is South Korea’s largest Ethereum Exchange and the fourth largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world by volume and the second largest ethereum exchange behind China’s OKCoin.
