Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon is to visit Spain, Switzerland, and Estonia for 11 days from tomorrow.
He is to visit a small Swiss town of Zug where cryptocurrency investors flock. The city, a half-an-hour drive from Zurich, has become a hub for the cryptocurrency. The town’s registration office accepts bitcoin in fees. Many foreigners regarded the city at the center of cryptocurrency financial revolution. The small town is called the Crypto Valley. Zug houses 40,000 blockchain companies although its population is around 30,000.
The third-term mayor is also to meet with Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid for the digital revolution. Estonia has been widely known as a model of e-government. The country seeks e-Estonia, which includes e-voting, e-tax, e-business, e-banking, e-ticket, e-school, and e-university. Estonia is famous for its E-residency, a program which enables foreigners to obtain an e-resident smart card.
The mayor will chair the Global Social Economy Forum in Bilbao, Spain. Seoul is the chair city of the forum. About 1,500 leaders of the city governments and social economy experts will be present at the meeting, according to a Seoul City spokesman. During Park’s visit, Seoul will sign sisterhood agreements with Barcelona, Bilbao, and Zurich.
