Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon Monday said the metropolitan city would create a blockchain cluster, open a blockchain college and establish a 100 billion won blockchain fund.
In the first Asia Blockchain & Fintech festival, the mayor said he would implement a master plan for developing the blockchain industry. The major made public his vision for promoting the blockchain industry during his recent visit to the Zug City in Switzerland. A small city of Swiss city Zug is globally recognized as the hub of the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry.
The blockchain cluster will house cutting-edge blockchain startups in Seoul while the blockchain college is a city-sponsored academy to foster blockchain experts. Seoul City’s fund would be a financial pipeline for blockchain startups.
The mayor said the metropolitan city would use the blockchain technology to introduce e-voting and upgrade transparency and reliability in welfare and civil services for Seoulites.
The metropolitan city host the two-day international conference at the Shilla Hotel. The meeting is to pool wisdom of international experts to make Seoul one of leading cities in the blockchain business. Especially, Mayor Park wants to get a global view on how to upgrade the traditional industry by using blockchain technology.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert took the podium to deliver a keynote speech at the conference. He said Korea and his country have many traits in common. “The two countries lack natural resources and have always been exposed to war risk,” he said, “Once the two nations join hands together, we can create a bright future.” He added that the two nations could change the daily lives of the citizens.”
The conference, dubbed Fuze 2018, also highlights the investor relations session by leaders of cryptocurrency exchanges and blockchain projects.
The conference would hold sessions on the domains empowered by blockchain, dynamics of the next industrial revolution and new world, new governance.
Business persons from Korea, China, and Japan, are also sharing their know-how on how to use blockchain technology in upgrading the media, the exchange, and the financial market.
