Korea’s printing and minting company KOMSCO has unveiled the blockchain-based e-gift card Monday.
Buyers of the e-gift card can picture QR code through his or her smartphone, enter bill amount, and fingerprints or PIN to complete settlement.
A KOMSCO executive said its e-gift card is safer than the existing ones. Besides, merchants do not pay service fees. He expects local autonomous bodies, including provinces, cities, and counties to use its gift card.
The KOMSCO signed an agreement with the Ministry of Interior and Safety on the use of the e-gift card last July. Seongnam City and Siheung City are likely to introduce the card soon.
