Blockchain-based online game developers and the state-run rating agency seem to be in the race between the turtle and the hare.
The game developers have completed blockchain games, but have to delay marketing because they have yet to get approval from the Game Rating and Administration Committee.
The rating agency is cautious in rating the blockchain games for two reasons. Firstly, the agency has yet to secure funds for the rating.
Secondly, its delay reflects the South Korean government’s nervous and allergic attitude over anything linked to blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
The South Korean government still regards the online game as a kind of gambling although domestic games are at the cutting-edge of global competitors.
The agency has not received any state fund for reviewing and rating blockchain-based online games.
The game developers, out of frustration over the delay, are going overseas for marketing.
